Citrus Export Growers Association (CEGA)

The CEGA is mainly concerned with the production, export and marketing of citrus fruits like oranges, grape fruit, lemons, easy peelers and so on. Citrus exports have been the leading component of the industry in terms of volume. Production levels peaked in 2001 at 45 000 tonnes exported, being 60 per cent of national production. Currently, Zimbabwe is exporting 30 000 tonnes, mainly to the EU and Middle East markets. Growth potential is high as most trees are still relatively young. Growth forecast is expected to be around 5 per cent. District councils have repossessed some of the neglected orchards and are rehabilitating them.
